On motivation...

As summer is slowly coming to an end, everyone is rushing around getting ready to go to school. This includes running around like chickens with our heads cut off.

In the course of the day, three different friends stopped by my house, only for about an hour each, as they had long, daunting lists of errands to complete. They all had one thing in common though: everyone said it was going to be all right.

Despite our busy schedules and the stress surrounding them, my friends continued to reassure themselves and me that it was going to be all right. Those few, simple words reminded me that a positive mindset can have the power to change everything.

So perhaps that is what we all need sometimes: to be told it is going to be all right.

Givology finally provides a more active avenue to do so.

For example, here is Mirembe Belinda’s profile:
Mirembe Belinda’s Profile

She is a student at the Peace Primary School in Uganda.

Below her picture on her profile is a link that says, “Message me”. Here, donors can send messages to Mirembe and other students on the Givology website. Donors have the chance to offer positive encouragement to students and motivate them to do their best. If anything, donors can tell students that someone cares and that they are there to help. Students can then send messages back to donors.

So as we rush around to get everything done, buying new binders for classes, looking for the perfect pair of jeans for the first day of school, picking up pretzels for our mother’s last minute Labor Day party, let us remind ourselves that everything is going to be okay.

More importantly, let us remind others that everything is going to be okay. The power of your words, something priceless, gives these students the motivation to excel.

Take the time today to remind yourself and the students that it is going to be okay –anything can be achieved with hard work, and of course, the right motivation.
