My name is Maura Fortino and I graduated from Capital University in May of 2016 with a Bachelors Degree in Public Relations. I played soccer growing up and all through out college. In my free time I enjoy reading, writing, and traveling.

How did you find Givology and what made you want to join the organization?
I found Givology through a quick internet search. I was looking to get more involved with different nonprofits and I happened to stumble upon Givology. Education is really important to me, so I really felt a connection to their mission and liked that it was an organization I could volunteer with whenever, wherever.

What does Givology’s mission mean to you?/Why is Givology’s mission important to you?
I attended an all girls high school and this is where I learned the importance of education, especially for girls. Givology's mission is really important to me, because I think everyone deserves a quality education. The circumstances you're born into shouldn't determine whether or not you get to go to school, so I like that Givology is helping to level the playing field for all children, everywhere.

What do you hope to achieve off volunteering/interning with Givology?
It's important to fight for the things you are passionate about. I'm passionate about education, so if I can even help one student somewhere in the world get the education they deserve, then all my efforts were worth it.

What is your advice to anyone thinking (unsure) about volunteering for Givology?
Take some time to look over the website and at the blogs so you can understand what Givology is all about, you might not be passionate about education right now, but if you join Givology, I have no doubt you will soon become passionate about it. And, don't be afraid or think that you can't help, because even if you're just promoting the work that Givology does, your efforts will help in the long run and that's what matters!

What gives you motivation everyday to volunteer?
My motivation comes from the millions of kids we are currently helping and the millions of kids we will help. I may never meet these kids, but I know that they will go on to do great things, and that's because Givology and organizations like it are fighting for their right to a quality education.

What's your favorite cause at Givology?
My favorite cause is 'The Last Girl' because it serves underprivileged kids born into the red light districts of India. It focuses on keeping children in school and out of the sex trade business, along with working to dismantling prostitution and minimizing sex-trafficking.
