Profile

Through this project, Gramin Shiksha Kendra will be working closely with the community members of the villages that their three Uday schools serve. Gramin Shiksha Kendra will be training four community members in community engagement and school management. This will include school management processes, community engagement processes, and liaising with local elected representatives and officials, among other processes. Through this project, we plan to empower the community to drive the growth of quality education for children using local resources.

History

A key component of the Gramin Shiksha Kendra approach is community engagement. GSK believes that schools are an extension of the community and works closely with community-members on the management of the schools, providing them with skills needed to drive the demand for quality education in the area. Our goal is to empower communities in Sawai Madhopur and Tonk district to recognize quality education and understand that it is achievable using local level resources.
As of 2018, GSK is working to take the next step in its community engagement of the communitieshanding over full school management to the communities. This is a process that will take several years and will include extensive training of community members. It is a key component of one of GSK's end goalsempowering local communities to drive the demand for quality education.

Impact

This project will provide training for four community members, empowering them to develop their skills as education activists and community leaders. It will also help ensure the ongoing education of 400 plus children.
