Day 44 Student: Erika Natalia
Erika Natalia is 11 years old and was born in Bogotá, Colombia. She lives with her mother, stepfather, and younger brother and sister. The family lives in a rented apartment located in southern Bogota, an area where displaced and very poor people live.
Erika's biological father abandoned Erika's mother while she was pregnant with her daughter. Hence, Erika does not know her father, nor does she receive any support from him. Currently, Erika's mother and stepfather do not work. Right now they are relying on family savings and support from Erika's grandmother to provide for the children's education.
Erika hopes to become a teacher or a medical doctor and to help her family. As of August 21, 2011, she is $340 away from having her education fully funded.
