Day 19: Gabriel Kuriloff - REAL Schools Network



Gabriel holds a BA from Brown University in Urban Studies where he wrote his honors thesis of the politics of school reform in Philadelphia. Gabriel has seven years of teaching and administrative experience including six years working as a teacher and administrator at a charter school in North Philadelphia. During this time his work included: leading curriculum design; planning and implementing professional development in curriculum design, the teaching of literacy, technology integration, character education, and other topics; managing student course scheduling; managing teacher recruitment; and helping to lead a high school reform and design process.

Gabriel has a master’s degree in educational leadership from the University of Pennsylvania where he also earned his Pennsylvania state principal’s certification. He is currently a doctoral student in educational leadership at the University of Pennsylvania studying school design and school leadership. Gabriel mentored first-year Teach for America students for two years and currently is an instructor of School and Society for TFA teachers as well as a teaching assistant for a master’s thesis class. Gabriel also works as a leadership development consultant for schools.

Gabriel has written about leadership, the “achievement gap”, programs that support students on their paths to college, and civic education. He is the co-author of funded research paper entitled, Developing Student Support Programs: A Report to the Save a Mind Foundation.

Born and raised in Philadelphia, Gabriel has committed his professional life to improving educational opportunities for all students in southeastern Pennsylvania.
