La Vallee Alliance Library Project Update

Dear Givology,
Thank you to our many donors who contribute to the matching campaign through Givology. The library now has hundreds of new books, wiring for power, a secure door, desks and shelves, and, soon, a new bathroom! Our dedicated librarian is working with the construction crew and we hope to continue to raise funds to install solar power and a generator by the end of the year.
Twenty-three summer camp volunteers carried 1800 pounds of supplies from Virginia to La Vallee in July. Included in those donations were several hundred books for the library. The first attached photo shows some of the volunteers delivering the books to librarian Francene Mamousette.
The second photo is students in the La Vallee summer enrichment camp enjoying some of the new books donated for the community library.
The summer enrichment camp was quite successful, and Alliance volunteers got the opportunity to get to know some of the amazing students in La Vallee. Students in the camp were able to use laptop computers, many for the first time in their lives. Volunteers taught them how to use a mouse, install software, and play some learning games on the computers. The last three pictures show students working with some English language learning software which we were able to leave for the library, along with three donated laptops. Right now they are not in use, since the library has no power. But we hope to get solar panels and power installed in the next 6 months, as we raised the required funds.
