Profile

I was born eighteen years ago in Shuhe Village. My village is located at a very high altitude. As a result, few types of crops grow and transportation is difficult. There is only one narrow path for livestock to walk on when going up and down the mountains. Thanks to the government's aid, in 2004, I completed elementary school at a school that was 20 km away.

In 2008, I hope to graduate from Shuhe Middle School. But I am very afraid of what will happen once I graduate. Without external financial aid (hopefully from the US), I will not be able to pay the school fees associated with high school enrollment and studies. If given the opportunity, I will work extremely hard and use my grades to pay back my supporters. I will remain indebted to the donors that sponsor me. I would like to thank my parents, teachers, and the various organizations that have helped me get to where I am today.

    Guijun Ma: another year complete

    We are now fundraising to support Guijun for another year! As you can read from his handwritten letters, your contribution has made a tremendous difference. $250 paid for tuition, books, school supplies, and transportation for the 2009-2010 school year. Unlike some of our other partners which provide a one-time grant to a student, the scholarships provided by the Peach Foundation last for two years in order to provide the children with a sustained period of education. In September, the children returned to school, and we are hoping to raise another $240 for the 2010-2011 year. One of the most innovative aspects of Givology is the opportunity to make connections across the world – both inspiring and being inspired by the children that you support. We sincerely hope you consider supporting Guijun again. Even if you choose not to make a financial contribution, we still urge you to send him a message that we can deliver.     Update from Guijun Ma

    Dear Givology: I felt grateful and content when I received your letter. First of all, I want to wish all of you a Happy New Year. Thank you for your support and encouragement. Don’t give up, nothing is impossible!! We have to work hard to change what can be changed and learn to accept what cannot be changed. In the future, out lives will be more colorful. After the rain, we will have the rainbow. Suffering is not permanent because we have warmth and love that others don’t possess. It's impossible that suffering can't be changed. You just have to try hard and tomorrow will be better, right? Thank you all at Givology. It’s you who hold our hands and help us face problems bravely. We are very fortunate to have your support and care in our times of great need. Thank you! Now that I have entered junior year of high school, I feel the stress of school and the limited time we have, but these should all be within expectations.
