Profile

We are renovating classrooms at our local primary school. Many students have to share a desk. Because they sit so close together, students are easily distracted. By purchasing a desk, you are helping to provide our students in rural Tanzania with the learning environment they need in order to focus on their studies.

History

In 2004 Tanzanian Children’s Fund entered into a partnership with the Tanzanian government to co-manage Gyetighi Primary School. Gyetighi was once the lowest ranked school in the region. Today Gyetighi is one of the best schools in its region.

Impact

We believe that one of the critical factors to success as an adult is a good education. In tandem with this, we have always believed that it is important for our children to attend the local primary school to foster their sense of belonging to a wider community. In July 2007, the Children's Village entered into a ‘management partnership contract’ with Gyetighi Primary School and the District Education Office. Since then, we have been working with the Head Teacher, the School Committee, and District Officials to improve the school.

It’s working! In 2004 only 25% of the students passed the Standard 7 National Exam which determines their eligibility to matriculate to secondary school. In 2010, 96% of the students passed this exam and in 2011 100% of the kids passed the national exam!
