The Rural China Education Foundation is dedicated to promoting education in rural China that empowers students to improve their lives and their communities. They bring together rural teachers, community members, education experts, and volunteers from inside and outside of China to pioneer new models of education based on the needs of rural China. Their programs include experimental schools in rural China, volunteering opportunities, public education, and small grants for Chinese organizations that share our philosophy. The goal of the type of quality education RCEF aims to create is not to replace traditional education, but instead, to serve to complement essential components in learning missing from traditional education. An essential aspect of quality education is the use of student-centered teaching methods. Such tactics not only encourage students to take ownership of their newly acquired knowledge and skills, but also raise interest/motivation for learning and cause students to thinking about implications that life-long learning has to their lives and future job opportunities.
