Profile

AMCAV seeks to expand the number of students in its school program, focusing on children born of rape. The project focuses on comprehensive counseling for these children, who often suffer social stigma, and facilitate integration and inclusion into society. Pending the project's success, the project will provide funds for students in the 2015-2016 school year.

Tuition: $1000. Breakdown: $5/month x 10 months (actually 10 months and a few days) = $50 per student per year x 20 students = $1000

School supplies and uniforms: total = $500. Breakdown:
- Math kits @ $2 ea x 20 = $40
- Backpacks @ $5 ea x 20 = $100
- 4 Box of pens @ $5 each = $20 (10 pens per box; 2 pens per student; 5 students per $5 box x 4 = $20)
- Socks: $1 each x 20 = $20
- Shoes: $8 each x 20 = $160
- Remaining uniform components (shirt or blouse, skirt or shorts) = $8 ea x 20 = $160

Social integration of new students: $1080. Breakdown: 3 sessions with AMCAV counselors to integrate the new students into the school communities = 9 days @ one day per school.

History

AMCAV serves vulnerable populations in 5 villages, including Rwenena, Luberizi, and Kiliba. Its current education program serves 130 students, but this is not enough. Siblings and other community members are excluded for lack of funding. They desperately want an education.

Impact

Through this project, 20 additional students will be added to AMCAV's program.

Team Credentials

AMCAV team members are trained residents of the communities they serve. The team has been working for many years operating "listening houses" for women served by AMCAV. The director of AMCAV has dedicated her life to improving the lives of women and educating them about their rights and the rights of their children.
